Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental disease in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combinations of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behaviour that impairs daily functioning and can be disabling.
Symptoms may include:
Delusions: these are false beliefs that are not based on reality.
Hallucinations: these usually involve seeing or hearing things that dont exist. yet for the person with schizophrenia they feel it as a normal experience.
Disorganized thinking: Effective communications can be impaired and answer to questions can be unrelated.
Extremely disorganized or abnormal motor behaviour: This may show in childlike silliness to unpredictable agitation.
Negative symptoms: This refers to reduced or lack of ability to function normally.
The risk factors of Schizophrenia are:
1) Having a family history of schizophenia.
2) Some pregnancy or birth complications such as malnutrition or exposure to toxins or viruses that may impact brain development.
3) Taking mind altering (Psychoactive) drugs during teen years and young adulthood
other factors include:
1) Anxiety or obsessive -compulsive disorders.
2) Depression
3) Inability to work or attend school
4) Social isolation
5) Financial problems and homelessness.
6) Aggressive behaviour.
